Modular house builder put up for sale amidst volatile economic climate

North Yorkshire-based modular house manufacturer, ilke Homes, has been put up for sale.

Work has reportedly stopped at both sites and the £28m turnover company’s factory in Knaresborough on Friday.

Bosses have warned the business is having to contend with volatile economic conditions, as well as issues with the planning system which are complicating both fundraising and housing delivery.

And in a statement, the firm warned it’s £1bn order book mainly comprised affordable homes, meaning that without a new investor, much-needed housing would not be constructed.

Last week, Companies House began action to strike Ilke Homes off the register of companies because it was late filing its accounts, but it discontinued this action two days later.

The firm said it had been given an extension until the end of this month to file its accounts, during which time it was aiming to agree new funding to secure the business’s future.

ilke Homes’ client base includes major institutional investors, housing associations, volume house builders and local authorities.

Late last year, the business managed to raise a record-breaking £100m from new and existing shareholders – the largest-ever sum raised by a UK modular housebuilder.
