People: Clarion; CLOUD NINE; Wrigleys Solicitors; and more

Clarion has strengthened its team by promoting Andrew Curtis, Sarah Manning, Daniel Carlton and Stephanie Douthwaite to legal director.

Working within the banking and finance team, Curtis joined Clarion in 2019 as an associate, rising to senior associate a year later.

With 12 years’ legal experience, he previously worked for an international law firm where he advised UK clearing banks, international debt funds, pension funds, and national and international borrowers on bilateral and club transactions.

He has worked with both lenders and borrowers on various finance deals, such as real estate finance, leverage finance and general corporate finance, including advising the private equity market and advising lenders on the listing of borrower clients.

Over the last two years since joining Clarion, Manning has become a valued member of the family practice in her role as a senior associate.

With A 15-year specialism in family law, she qualified as a mediator in 2012, and specialises in high-net-worth, complex children and financial mediation cases. She is a trained hybrid mediator and also a child inclusive trained mediator.

As well as being a member of Resolution, she chair of Family Mediation Week through the Family Mediation Council.

Carlton, who leads Clarion’s debt recovery team, has more than 25 years’ experience advising and developing debt collection and credit control services for a variety of clients.

Having joined in 2010 as a manager, he has driven the growth of the firm’s debt recovery services, assisting blue-chip companies throughout the UK to maximise their cash flow.

His areas of expertise include working with clients to streamline credit control processes, reduce DSO and find answers to aged debt issues.

Carlton has worked extensively in the building products/manufacturing, commercial landlord, leisure, retail, recruitment and utilities sectors.

Douthwaite joined Clarion in 2016 as an associate and was promoted to senior associate in 2020. She has over nine years of experience in family law.

She is a Resolution Accredited specialist, her areas of specialism being complex higher income financial remedies and private children law.

She deals mostly in complex and high net worth finance cases, experienced in using the full range of court or out-of-court dispute resolution methods to best suit the client’s needs, and is also regularly instructed to assist with wealth planning through advising on and preparing nuptial agreements.

Harrogate-headquartered hair and beauty brand, CLOUD NINE, has appointed Danny Emmett as its first external CEO.

Founding brothers, Martin and Gavin Rae, are taking on new roles as non-executive chairman and non-executive director, respectively.

The move comes as the company eyes further growth, with a strategy which will see it almost double in size by 2027 and explore expansion into new territories.

Emmett joins from his most recent role as group chief operating officer at AO – a role he held for four and a half years.

He worked his way up at AO over a period of almost 15 years, having joined in 2009 as a senior commercial analyst.

CLOUD NINE was launched in 2009 by the Rae brothers, alongside professional hairdresser and pioneer Robert Powls. Its last set of accounts show sales of around £35m.

In their new roles, the Rae brothers will focus their efforts on growing the business and will be responsible for overseeing commercial excellence.

Martin Rae said: “Gavin and I are very much looking forward to taking on our new roles in the business – one which we have loved building – whilst handing over day-to-day responsibility to Danny as our new CEO.

Wrigleys Solicitors, in Leeds, has promoted two of its leading solicitors, Alacoque Marvin and Chelsea Martin.

Marvin has been promoted to partner after 10 years at Wrigleys, following the completion of her training contract with the firm.

She qualified as a solicitor in 2015 and is an employment and education lawyer working within the charities and social economy team at Wrigleys.

She retrained as a solicitor after a first career as a teacher and faculty leader in an outstanding secondary school and has considerable experience of the realities of managing colleagues and resources within the education and public sectors.

Her work involves advising education sector, third sector and social economy clients on all aspects of employment law, including complex employee relations issues, TUPE, restructures and redundancy, and the defence of claims in the Employment Tribunal, including discrimination, whistle-blowing and trade union related claims.

Marvin also advises schools and academy trusts on a range of issues including parental complaints, information sharing, admissions and exclusions, and the defence of disability discrimination claims.

She said: I am happy to be recognised for my hard work over the past decade and look forward to the exciting challenges ahead.

“I’m very grateful to Wrigleys for the opportunities offered to me in my second career and pleased to be able to contribute further to such a values-driven and people-centred firm.” 

Martin, trained at a London firm and qualified in 2014. Since then, she has specialised in the private client sector before joining Wrigleys in 2019 with a particular interest in advising business owners and entrepreneurs on succession planning.

Her specialism is lifetime tax planning for her clients, including the preparation of complex Wills and trust documents, advising clients on their existing structures and how they might be re-organised to improve tax-efficiency or to achieve the client’s objectives.

She has experience in dealing with the administration of estates where there are assets situated overseas or where the deceased was domiciled or resident abroad and had assets in the UK. 

Martin said: “Since joining Wrigleys, I have been given the opportunity to develop my expertise in advising family business owners and entrepreneurs, and I am regularly engaged in complex, high value and technically challenging work.

South Yorkshire-based recruitment consultancy, Multitask Personnel, has added a new recruitment administrator to its team.

This latest appointment is part of the company’s ongoing expansion and commitment to changing the face of recruitment across the UK.

Katie Towey, a skilled and experienced professional, has joined as a recruitment administrator. She has a strong background in administration and a passion for assisting in the recruitment process.
