Healthtech boasts strong position after first half

EMIS Group said it has retained its market-leading position in specialist markets as it posted a half-yearly trading update in line with expectations.
The Leeds healthcare software and systems firm said there was no further update on its acquisition by US firm UnitedHealth Group, which awaits the results of an in-depth investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). UnitedHealth offered £1.2bn for EMIS through its Bordeaux UK Holdings subsidiary in June 2022. The CMA has until October to complete its investigation.
EMIS said it remained in a strong financial position at the end of June this year, with cash holdings of £49m, compared to £54m in June 2022.
It continued to invest in technology and its cloud strategy fore its health division, where revenues were held back due to a planned reduction in lower-margin resale partners. Delivery of digitisation contracts improved towards the end of the half. It said it won a new share in the community pharmacy market.
