Expanding Yorkshire manufacturer establishes base in Romania

Barnsley-headquartered Andel, a developer of specialised leak detection and environmental protection systems, has expanded into Romania.

Headed by European business development executive, Ioana Martin, the firm’s new Bucharest office’s main divisions focus on leak detection, water sustainability and flood defence.

Andel says it opened a base in Romania after spotting potential in the area and is now “perfectly positioned” to pursue growth within the European region.

Martin said: “I relocated back to Romania due to Brexit and the uncertainty it brought. However, I soon realised it was a great opportunity to be able to tap into a new market and discover new opportunities.

“I spoke to the team at Andel and they agreed about the gap in the market in Romania and decided it was worth investing in.

“We have done this in the past with our office in Poland similarly where there was huge potential for our products within the growing economy so we have good previous form on this.”

The long-term plan for the office is to equip it with the same product and service offering that Andel has in the UK along with teams able visit sites for installations, maintenance and compliance.

Sales director, Aaron Brian, said: “We have created a well-equipped independent website to service the European region and look forward to seeing it reach many people in need of our products and services. We’ve already seen great interest and our offering has generated lots of enquiries.

“There is also a great need for general education in the divisions that we work in to equip the communities with the knowledge they need so we are attending networking events, speaking at knowledge events on sustainable solutions and running educational campaigns over social media channels to support them.”

Andel was cited as one of the success stories of the 2012 London Olympics – installing and commissioning leak detection systems in the main stadium, the white-water canoe course, and the Olympic village.

It has also installed its Floodline system in prestigious London buildings such as the Shard, the Houses of Parliament, the O2, the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building and Canary Wharf.

As well as its flood alert and defence systems, the company is responsible for oil storage, fuel maintenance, sampling, and inspections at more than 50% of all NHS trusts in England.
