Water infrastructure contract awarded to serve expanding industrial estate
Yorkshire Water has awarded a £2m contract to United Living Infrastructure Services (ULIS), a subsidiary of United Living Group, a provider of infrastructure, affordable housing, and property services.
The job will involve laying around 6km of new water pipelines at Leeming Bar Industrial Estate, near Bedale in North Yorkshire.
In March 2023, the 34-hectare Leeming Bar Industrial Estate received planning approval for the addition of 18 new businesses, which is expected to substantially increase the demand for water in the area.
As well as upgrading pipework, ULIS will also take responsibility for upgrading roads where necessary to facilitate efficient access during the construction phase. These road improvements are expected to have a lasting positive impact on the local community.
John Farrell, managing director of United Living Infrastructure Services, said: “We are happy to be working with Yorkshire Water on this significant initiative, which not only supports economic development but also underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility and the local community.
“This project is not without its challenges, particularly in navigating multiple water courses.
“ULIS has harnessed its industry expertise by utilising directional drilling techniques to mitigate any environmental impact on the surrounding area.
“Upholding our commitment to minimising environmental impact is at the heart of ULIS’ strategy, and we are committed to ensuring the sustainability of our operations.”
Steph Horgan, project manager at Yorkshire Water, added: “This is a significant investment by Yorkshire Water underlying our commitment to supply the residents of Leeming Bar with the best quality drinking water.
“The work has been planned in a way that tries to minimise disruption to residents and we will continue to keep people updated on progress throughout the scheme which is due to complete in May 2024.”
