Planned food, drink and retail centre to create more than 100 jobs

Discount food retailer, Aldi, in partnership with Eshton Group, is bringing forward proposals to develop phase one of a new local centre, to be anchored by an Aldi food store.

Located to the north of Northallerton town, the centre would represent an investment of £8m, integrating into the wider residential-led development, known as North Northallerton.

In total, it is expected that up to 110 new full and part-time jobs would become available for local, 40 of these jobs at the new Aldi food store alone.

As well as the Aldi food, there would also be a Burger King restaurant with a drive-thru, Starbucks coffee shop with a drive-thru, a sandwich shop run by Greggs and 166 car parking spaces.

A spokesman for Aldi, said: “We’re very excited to be consulting on our plans for a new local centre in North Northallerton.

“The proposals would bring much needed new food shopping together with food and drink facilities to the north of Northallerton, to support the significant amount of new housing in the area.

“We’ve taken great care to ensure the site leaves the best possible first impression, and strategically positioned the local centre away from the existing roundabout, to create as much open space as possible.

 “We’re looking forward to hearing from as many local residents as possible through our virtual consultation and encourage everyone to get involved.”

A spokesman from Eshton Group added: “This is a great opportunity to partner with Aldi and deliver a vital new local neighbourhood centre to North Northallerton.

“This site will play an integral role in supporting the wider North Northallerton masterplan in the coming years.”

Aldi and Eshton Group aim to submit an application to North Yorkshire Council in the coming months.
