Prominent businessman recovering after heart attack

Leeds businessman Martin Port is recovering following a heart attack on Tuesday.

Port, founder of job management software provider BigChange, an angel investor, and a prominent business blogger and podcaster, announced on his LinkedIn page that he would be taking time away from blogging and social media to concentrate on his recovery.

He praised the NHS for a speedy response and excellent care following the heart attack. “Their dedication and professionalism have been nothing short of a miracle, and I am deeply grateful for their life-saving efforts,” he wrote.

Port founded Masternaut UK in 2002, bringing it from a start-up to an award-winning fast growth business. It was one of the first British firms to offer software-as-a-service.

He founded BigChange in 2013, stepping down as chief executive after selling a majority share in 2021. He remains the company’s chairman. More recently he has become an angel investor, with notable investments in online  tradesperson marketplace RatedPeople and data analytics firm Panintelligence.

His weekly blog, Port’s Thoughts, focuses on business and leadership. His Growth Stories podcast features his interviews with business leaders and entrepreneurs about their personal growth as well as that of their firms.
