Yorkshire Business of the Year Awards: Focus on family firms

The winners at the 2024 Yorkshire Business of the Year Awards

Yorkshire and Humber has a broad spectrum of family-owned businesses across every sector, and ranging in size from small enterprises to large groups with turnovers of £1bn.

All told, the region has around 350,000 family firms, providing about a million jobs.

The winner of the Family Business category in the Yorkshire Business of the Year will be able to show that it is thriving because it is a family business, using the skills of different generations and having a long-term vision for sustainable success.

Last year’s winner, Huddersfield furniture manufacturing business Daval Furniture, was founded by cabinet maker David Bodsworth in 1978, and is now run by his three sons, who demonstrate the commitment to quality and sustainability of people looking for the next generation to take over one day.

The Yorkshire Business Awards are sponsored by family firm Tudor International Freight, RBC Brewin Dolphin, and Verlingue, with Campaigner as principal partner. Nominations close on 5 July, so download your entry forms and get them in soon.

Site visits to decide the shortlist will take place between 3 September and 22 November. Each shortlisted company will then be invited to give a presentation in Leeds in January 2025 to the judging panel who will select the category winners.

The awards will be presented at a gala dinner at New Dock Hall on 20 February 2025.
