Collapsed steel fabrication business owed suppliers £4.5m

A Sherburn-in-Elmet based company which designed, made and installed complex steel structures, ceased trading owing more than £4.5m to suppliers and subcontractors.

SH Structures’ debts, revealed in an update published at Companies House, also included nearly £1m owed to its employees and £370,000 owed to HMRC.

The company, which was established more than 30 years ago and operated from Moor Lane Trading Estate, suffered from losses on various contracts and a gap in production scheduling due to projects being delayed.

All 67 of its staff were made redundant after the business fell into administration in April.

A spokesman for the joint administrators said it had not proved possible to find a purchaser for the business, despite its strong reputation.
