Consultation begins on plans to extend world’s biggest offshore wind farm
SSE Renewables is inviting members of the public to have their say on a potential fourth phase of Dogger Bank Wind Farm – Dogger Bank D.
A public consultation into the Dogger Bank D wind farm proposals begins today – Tuesday 10 September – and runs for six weeks ending on Tuesday 22 October 2024. The consultation features local in-person events and an online Q&A session to gather feedback from the public.
Dogger Bank D is a planned new fourth phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, the world’s largest offshore wind farm, which is currently under construction.
It would be located in the North Sea, around 130 miles off the Yorkshire coast and be capable of generating up to 2GW of renewable power.
The consultation offers the community a chance to learn more about the project, ask questions and provide feedback.
Sophie Large, senior project manager for Dogger Bank D, said: “We are excited to welcome the public to our consultation events for Dogger Bank D and provide the opportunity for the community to learn more about our proposals.
“It’s vital for those who live or work locally to be informed about our plans and we look forward to sharing our ideas with the community and listening to what they have to say.”
Eight open days are being held during September at village halls and other venues across the county. People can also register their opinions at the Dogger Bank website.
The project is being developed and built by SSE Renewables in a joint venture with Norway’s Equinor and Vårgrønn.
Work started in July 2022 and the first power was produced in late 2023. The first three phases will have 630 turbines standing 623 ft (190m) high, built by Siemens in Hull.
