Funding support to accelerate BindEthics’ commercialisation ambitions
Scientific start-up BindEthics has secured angel investment and grants of more than £400,000 to accelerate the commercialisation of an innovative wood glue that could have a big impact on making engineered wood products more environmentally friendly.
The Leeds-based business is developing a bio-adhesive that can replace the toxic formaldehyde-based glue which is preventing the recycling and safe incineration of engineered wood.
Angel investments facilitated by Lifted Ventures have been secured to support a significant Innovate UK grant. The financial backing will accelerate the product testing and commercialisation of BindEthics’ innovation.
Victoria Garcia, chief executive of BindEthics, said: “We are thrilled to drive forward with our vision, transforming the engineered wood products industry with adhesives that are not only sustainable but support full lifecycle circularity.
“This latest funding, alongside the invaluable guidance from Lifted Ventures, allows us to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly materials across the construction sector. Our adhesive technology is a crucial step towards a healthier planet and aligns perfectly with industry’s movement toward Net Zero.”
Lifted Ventures was co-founded by Jordan Dargue and Helen Oldham last year and has since helped leverage more than £4.2m investment into female-led firms.
Oldham said: “We are delighted to have supported Victoria through this critical phase of product development and are eager to see what lies ahead for BindEthics.
“With Lifted Ventures’ support, Victoria secured a substantial Innovate UK grant, positioning her business to thrive. It has been especially rewarding to work with a leader in our hometown of Leeds, and we look forward to supporting many more partnerships with Leeds University-backed businesses.”
