Global life sciences business swoops for Yorkshire chemicals supplier

Pudsey-based Vickers Laboratories, which has served the chemical industry for over 50 years, has sold its entire issued share capital to Los Angeles-based Calibre Scientific.

Calibre Scientific is a global provider of life science reagents, tools, instruments, and other consumables to lab research, diagnostics, industrial, and biopharmaceutical communities. This acquisition will strengthen its UK presence.

Vickers Laboratories’ directors, Phil Constantine and Paul Bottomley, have dedicated their careers to the West Yorkshire-based company, beginning as teenagers and climbing the ranks to management and ownership.

Schofield Sweeney advised Vickers Laboratories on the sale to Calibre Scientific.

Jack Venable, of Schofield Sweeney, said: “This was a fantastic outcome for all parties, and we would like to thank Phil, Paul, Sarah and Dianne for their tenacity and wish them every success for their future endeavours.”

Legal advice for Vickers was provided by a multi-disciplinary team from Schofield Sweeney, including: Corporate – Jack Venable, Michael Cantwell and Victoria Boothby; Environmental – Craig Burman; Real estate – Howard Jenkins; Employment – Rajveer Basra; Tax – John Feaster and Kieran Berry; and Dispute resolution – Annie Hui-Gillen.

Malcolm Coomber and Katie Brockhurst from Clarkson Hyde acted as corporate finance advisers and Jayne McGlynn and Ellis Hart-MacLeay from DWF provided legal advice to Calibre Scientific.
