City bus station back in action following year-long closure

Bus services have resumed at Bradford Interchange again – a year after it closed due to structural problems.
A total of 47 services have returned to the bus station – about 80% of all routes – while a remaining 11 services continue to run from Hall Ings and Nelson Street.
All routes are expected to return to the station in April, following completion of resurfacing works.
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming back passengers to the Interchange, they’ve shown real patience since we made the decision to close on safety grounds.
“We’re encouraging people to check where their services will be departing from in advance to ensure they have the smoothest possible journey.”
The concourse and bus station was forced to shut on 4 January 2024 due to safety concerns, after a piece of concrete fell from the roof of an underground car park.
It led to significant disruption for passengers, with buses instead having to pick up and drop off travellers from surrounding city centre streets.
A recent report to the station’s owner and operator, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, recommended plans be put in place as soon as possible to replace the ageing facility.
However, it is understood a new bus station for Bradford city centre will take around five years to plan and build.
