700 homes destined for brownfield site

Mixed tenure housing provider Vistry Group and housebuilder Miller Homes have jointly acquired a brownfield site in Huddersfield, which has outline planning permission for more than 700 new homes.

Vistry will build 469 mixed-tenure homes, including 50% affordable or private rented housing, with Miller Homes building 231 new homes for the private market.

The development will also include a new care home and a local convenience store.

Vistry and Miller Homes will provide a range of house styles and sizes, from one to five bedrooms.

The site, which is 3.5km south west of the town centre, is on a former industrial area and some agricultural land.

Under the new plans, it will feature green corridors, a central park and a variety of outdoor play areas, with 25% of it dedicated to being green space.

£1.3m will be invested into local schools and £900,000 towards local highways and sustainable transport improvements.

Andrew Poyner, managing director of Vistry West Yorkshire, said: “This major site will deliver many hundreds of new, high quality, mixed-tenure homes, helping to support the council’s local housing needs and breathing new life into this vacant, brownfield site.

“Working together with Miller Homes we can provide greater housing choices for local people, creating a new neighbourhood featuring a range of green spaces and areas of outdoor play.”

Justin Tranmere, regional operations director of Miller Homes Yorkshire, added: “Miller Homes is pleased to be partnering with Vistry Group to deliver new homes for Huddersfield through the purchase of this significant site.

“We look forward to providing high-quality, sustainable homes, and investing in the neighbourhood to ensure the community we help build, and the people living in it, can grow and prosper.”
