Celebrating the Design Success of Building Society Headquarters

The design of the Market Harborough Building Society (MHBS) headquarters is a standout project for Yorkshire-based Switch Workplace Interiors, highlighting their expertise in creating innovative and functional workspaces. Completed in 2024, the project reflects Switch’s dedication to tailoring environments that align with client goals and enhance employee wellbeing.
Switch Workplace Interiors was brought onto the project by Midlands based Keyshel Interiors, the appointed fit-out contractor, to transform MHBS’s newly purchased three-storey, 13,950-square-foot building into a modern and efficient workspace. The headquarters now accommodates 100 desks, eight meeting rooms, and breakout areas with a capacity for 144 people.
The project’s design features include open-plan zones, inviting breakout areas, and ergonomic furniture carefully selected to promote comfort and efficiency. Switch’s approach prioritised both aesthetic appeal and practicality, ensuring the final design aligned with MHBS’s values and operational objectives resulting in a dynamic and collaborative spaces for both employees and the wider community to use.
Tim Neal, Head of Footprint at Market Harborough Building Society, said: “From the moment we were introduced to Keiren and the Switch Team it was clear that our relationship would be a positive one.
“There was a very clear commitment towards driving true collaboration, not only with the direct project team but also the wider MHBS workforce through engagement sessions – Keiren effectively became regarded as part of our MHBS team!
The client brief was not typical in that the ground floor was earmarked as the heartbeat of the building, with the design needing to embrace the needs of not only our own colleagues but also local community groups…..a key part of our Thrive! agenda.
“Following our opening in May we hosted over 60 events in 2024 for local charities, community groups and small businesses which is a glowing endorsement of not only our intent but the amazing quality of the design.
Working with Switch enabled us to deliver a building design which totally supported our needs and has helped to accelerate the positive development of our culture as an ambitious modern mutual.”
By closely working with MHBS, the design team developed a space that fosters creativity, collaboration, and productivity. Switch partnered with CRS Interiors to provide key furniture solutions, complementing the design’s functionality and quality and the completed headquarters exemplifies the value of thoughtful and purposeful design by creating a space built for the hybrid world of work.
This redesign underscores Switch Workplace Interiors’ ability to deliver tailored solutions that meet the evolving needs of modern businesses.
Switch Workplace Interiors remains committed to shaping inspiring workplaces across the North of England and beyond, helping businesses and organisations adapt to new challenges and thrive in dynamic environments.
