Investment sees vehicle supplier extend services to commercial and leisure sectors

A Hull vehicle supplier is gearing up to enter the heavyweight division with its latest investment.
Jordans Commercial, based at Witham near the city centre, has invested nearly half a million pounds in its repair and maintenance facilities, enabling it to service bigger, heavier commercial vehicles and motorhomes.
The work includes the acquisition of a 6.5 tonne two-post ramp – capable of lifting a twin axle motorhome and commercial vehicles weight up to 6.5 tonnes – as well as three MOT ramps due to be installed this month.
It also includes reconditioning of the workshop floor, full interior repaint, new lighting, new signage, and the creation of a habitation bay for motorhomes.
The investment is part of Jordans’ ongoing conversion from car retailer to specialising in the commercial vehicle and motorhomes sectors.
Ben Hakes, sales director with the company, which is part of Hull family business the Rix Group, said the move expands the services Jordans can provide to commercial fleet operators.
He said: “We’ve completely revamped our workshop with larger commercial vehicles and motorhomes in mind.
“Previously, as is the case with most dealers, we sold commercials but were unable to provide warranty work, service, MOT or maintenance work because we lacked the facilities.
“But this investment, combined with the existing high roof of our building, means we’re now in position to provide all this for Vauxhall, Fiat, Citroen, and Peugeot commercials and motorhomes.
“Our aim is to become a one-stop-shop for commercial and leisure vehicles, and this investment brings us much closer to that.”
He added the work took around two months to complete, but had been in the planning for almost a year.
As well as investing in new plant, Jordans also recruited three new technicians, taking the number of technicians in the business to 11 and the full headcount to around 40.
The work also included creation of a habitation bay for four motorhomes, which enables the interior of the vehicle to be serviced, maintained and repaired, alongside the vehicle’s mechanical workings.
