Distribution centre launch signals latest expansion of £240m rail village

Siemens Mobility has officially opened its new Rail Components Distribution Centre as the latest addition to its Rail Village in Goole, East Yorkshire.

Alongside the company’s existing distribution and logistics centre in Kettering, the Goole facility will serve as a storage and distribution centre for rail components while also supporting the integration of the Rail Village within the wider supply chain to support UK rolling stock operations.

Together, the Kettering and Goole teams include apprenticeships and internships, with significant potential for future workforce expansion.

Through the localisation of the company’s logistics distribution centres in the north and south of England, Siemens Mobility says it aims to reduce their logistics carbon footprint by reducing the road miles required to deliver materials to fleets.

Sambit Banerjee, joint CEO at Siemens Mobility, said: “I am so proud that our Goole Rail Village is continuing to expand, with a new Rail Components Distribution Centre that will play an important part in Siemens Mobility’s mission to transform rail travel and transport in the UK.

“This new centre, alongside its sister facility in Kettering, is the latest example of our commitment to the UK and will enable us to further enhance the delivery of materials to our fleets.”

Sir David Davis, Member of Parliament for Goole and Pocklington, said: “It was a pleasure to open Siemens Mobility’s new Rail Components Distribution Centre in Goole, alongside Councillor Anne Handley.

“This state-of-the-art facility located within my constituency represents yet another investment by Siemens Mobility in Goole and I look forward to more milestones to come as the Rail Village continues to grow.”

Councillor Anne Handley, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Councillor for Goole North, added: “This new facility is the latest in a long line of investment by Siemens Mobility into Goole and the East Riding of Yorkshire more widely, supporting local talent and investing in the communities where they operate.

“It makes me incredibly proud to be part of this journey and I look forward to working with Siemens Mobility as they continue to boost our local area.”

Siemens Mobility employs around 5,500 people in the UK. The opening of the Rail Components Distribution Centre is part of the firm’s broader investment of up to £240m in the Goole Rail Village.
