Financial rewards beckon for Leeds United as club returns to Premier League

Leeds United are back in the Premier League after two years in the Championship, and are set to reap major monetary awards.

A 6-0 win for the club over struggling Stoke City at Elland Road – coupled with a defeat for promotion rivals Sheffield United – means the Whites will be back in the top flight again next season.

In their last season in the Premier League, Leeds United’s revenues reached a record £190m. The club’s matchday and commercial revenues will again rise significantly in the Premier League but the team can look forward to a particularly lucrative media income stream.

In 2022-23, Leeds picked up £112m from broadcasters. However since then, a new domestic TV rights deal has been stuck which comes into force next season. Conservative estimates predict Leeds can probably expect £125m from media income.

Leeds will also be able to charge higher ticket prices at their ground next season, especially in its hospitality department.

It is expected the club will be able to hike matchday income by around 25 per cent in their first season back at the top.

The leader of Leeds City Council has hailed Leeds United’s return to the Premier League as “fantastic news” for the club, its fans and the local community.

Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “Leeds United’s return to the Premier League is fantastic news and, on behalf of the council, I want to send our warmest congratulations to everyone at the club.

“Leeds’s players, coaching staff, directors and the many, many unsung heroes behind the scenes at Elland Road should feel very proud of what they have achieved.

“The profile and publicity that comes with the Premier League’s huge global appeal can also bring wider economic benefits to Leeds as a whole while showcasing it as a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

“This, therefore, is a great day for Leeds, both on and off the pitch.”

The club’s owners have previously unveiled ambitious plans to increase the Elland Road capacity by nearly 20,000. This expansion would turn it into England’s seventh-biggest football stadium.
