City centre pub will occupy former Yorkshire Bank building

Brewery and pub business, Thornbridge & Co, is developing a new pub in central Sheffield, which will be known as The Fargate.

The venue will be in the old Yorkshire Bank building at the top of Fargate, opposite Sheffield Town Hall. It will sit over two floors, and will feature a large licensed outdoor area, capable of hosting up to 250 guests.

Construction is beginning, with Thornbridge & Co targeting this autumn for its opening.

Simon Webster, CEO and co-founder of Thornbridge & Co, said: “This project has been over two years in the making, and we’re thrilled to be nearing the finish line.

“We can’t wait to welcome the people of Sheffield and become a part of this dynamic and evolving city centre.”

Councillor Ben Miskell, chair of Sheffield City Council’s Transport, Regeneration and Climate Committee, has met with the team from Thornbridge & Co at the site to hear what they have planned for the venue.

He said the pub is part of a continuing programme of regeneration on Fargate.

He added: “It’s fantastic to see so many people are coming out to the city centre to enjoy this great run of weather we have recently had.

“We hope people have been enjoying the many amazing options for things to do across the city centre. In particular, it’s been great to see the number of people walking along Fargate up by nearly half for March as people came out to see the Fargate works completed.

“We look forward to seeing The Fargate completed and open for business, adding yet another brilliant venue for the people of Sheffield to enjoy a drink and bite to eat.”
