Carillion confirmed on Highways Agency scheme

SUPPORT services company Carillion today confirmed that it is one of the four delivery partners in a framework contract to deliver the Highways Agency’s Managed Motorways schemes – including two on key routes in Yorkshire.
Wolverhampton-based Carillion joins Balfour Beattie on the project. A BAM Nuttall / Morgan Est joint venture and a Costain/Serco joint venture have also been appointed.
Managed motorway schemes involve the installation of variable speed limits and hard shoulder running to reduce congestion and improve safety during peak periods.
Carillion says its selection for this new programme reflects its ability to utilise support services and construction capabilities.
Work will include M62 hard shoulder running between junctions 25 and 30 near Bradford, and M1 hard shoulder running between junctions 32 and 35a east of Sheffield.
The new framework suppliers may also be used to deliver additional schemes to improve capacity and traffic flow that utilise technology to make journey times more reliable, improve safety and provide driver information.
