Vp makes another acquisition

VP, the Harrogate-based equipment hire business, has acquired a firm that rents temporary lighting to petrochemical plants.

The group's tool hire subsidiary, Hire Station, has bought Middlesbrough-based Northern Site Services (NSS) for £1.6m.

NSS, established in 1993, provides temporary lighting and site electrics to the petrochemical and industrial sectors from its Teesside base. The firm had £800,000 of free cash when acquired and had turnover of £500,000 in the year to March 31.

NSS will be integrated with Hire Station's safety rental operation, ESS Safeforce.

The acquisition is the latest by Vp.

Hire Station, paid £750,000 for Yorkshire-based Able Safety, which provides safety equipment rental, service and sales and confined space training from its base in Knottingley, last November.

It also bought two Irish firms, Underground Safety Services (USS) and Pipe Testing Accessories (PTA) for a combined figure of £572,000.

Vp chairman Jeremy Pilkington, commented: “NSS is an excellent fit for ESS Safeforce providing further expansion of its specialist safety equipment offering, in support of process industry shutdown activities.

“The acquisition of NSS, and earlier in the financial year of Able Safety, demonstrates our commitment to build on market leading positions within the specialist safety equipment market.”
