YORKSHIRE-based EnServe Group, a provider of infrastructure support services to the utility and energy sectors, has appointed David Cruddace as chief financial officer.

The move comes as part Leeds-based EnServe’s strategy to double in size over the next four years. He joins a team lead by chief executive David Owens and chairman Sir Roy Gardner, formerly chairman of Manchester United.

Enserve is the new name for Spice which was bought by private equity firm Cinven last year.

Mr Cruddace has a background of working in private equity-owned companies where he has formerly held the positions of CFO at ALcontrol Laboratories and European CFO at Carl Zeiss Vision.

He spent nine years with Carillion and its predecessor Tarmac in various roles including FD of the Highways Maintenance division and Crown House Engineering.

YORK St John University has hired Darrell Hooper as the first business and innovation manager at the Phoenix Centre where he will support and mentor seven new businesses.

The new post was created as the university takes over the running of the business incubator from Science City York and sees the centre established as a hub for innovative creative and digital start up companies.

The Phoenix Centre, launched in 2009, was originally planned as a two year project to support new businesses with growth potential. Due to its success in supporting start up businesses – some run by recent graduates – the incubator will continue with the university as lead.
