Mumtaz to join Clarence Dock development

POPULAR Asian restaurant Mumtaz is to open its first outlet outside Bradford at a £260m Yorkshire development.

The new outlet is to be located at the Clarence Dock development in Leeds and marks the latest phase of occupiers at the site, with eight food and drink ventures set to move in.

The restaurant's founder, Mumtaz Khan, has previously said he planned to keep the original Mumtaz restaurant in Great Horton as a stand alone premises and grow other parts of the business such as its halal baby food and ready meals which are available in some of the UK's best known supermarket chains.

Located on the ground floor of Mackenzie House, Mumtaz will offer a dining experience as well as a food emporium stocking ingredients needed for Asian cuisine when the outlet opens in the summer.

Fellow Asian food chain Aagrah is to join Mumtaz at Clarence Dock when it opens a 2,500 sq ft café concept. The café will feature what the company has described as a 'central kitchen theatre'.

Developer Crosby Lend Lease has also revealed a number of other food and drink outlets which are to open at the 1.2m sq ft development, which is nearing completion, by July.

These include Pizza Express (4,500 sq ft) and Starbucks (1,500 sq ft). @larocca (9,000 sq ft) will be the trading name of Lancashire-based Tiggis which first opened in 1978 in Preston and expanded into St Annes, Bolton and Solihull. It will specialise in authentic Tuscan food.

The Roast (2,000 sq ft) will open its third restaurant in Leeds.

Additionally, London Clubs International, which is opening a £15m, 65,000 sq ft casino, Alea, at the site, is to open two new restaurants and five feature bars at the site.

Simon Kidd, commercial lettings director at Clarence Dock, said: “We are delighted to announce these new signings and as the venues open over the coming months they will add a totally new dimension to Clarence Dock.

“Already the waterside destination is alive with activity born out of the successful completion and occupation of 1,100 luxury apartments on site. Tesco Express, which opened in January, has confirmed that it is already 30% above trading predictions which is testament to the captive audience along the city's waterfront.”

Clarence Dock also includes 100,000 sq ft of prime office accommodation, a 1,650 covered multi storey car park and a hotel.

Leeds-based consultant CB Richard Ellis has been appointed by GE Real Estate to market Livingstone House – a 70,000 sq ft grade A office building – forming part of the Clarence Dock development in Leeds.

Livingstone House is one of the few grade A office buildings available in the city and, according to figures recently published by the Leeds based property consultants, office take-up in the city is still on the rise.
