STG hits acquisition trail

PROPERTY contractor Strategic Team Group is on the acquisition trail as it celebrates milestones in both its business and charitable work.
Andy Watson, managing director of the Castleford, Stockport and Glasgow-based company, said that the £40m turnover firm was actively looking for opportunities across the North and Scotland.
“These acquisitions will help us achieve our target of £100m turnover in the next two years while maintaining profit margins,” he said.
The annoucement comes as the firm approaches its tenth anniversary. Since founding in 2000 it has gone on to become one of the UK’s fastest growing suppliers of building property services.
It was set up by Gary Taylor, Charles Tweed, and Mr Watson with £150,000 secured working capital and the aim of developing the Strategic brand across all disciplines of the construction industry.
After quickly achieving the goal, the team re-positioned the business to concentrate on geographic expansion in core service deliveries – new build, refurbishment, minor works and maintenance.
In 2007, former PKF adviser Ian Bowness joined the firm. An £11m shareholder reconstruction of the business funded by Barclays Ventures released additional resources for expansion and growth.
Mr Watson said he was proud of what the company has achieved.
“In just one decade we have reached some major milestones, from restoring landmark buildings to their former glory to building the UK’s first Cyclepoint at Leeds station,” he said.
“Along the way we have built strong relationships with our clients ranging from registered social landlords to train operating companies and local councils. We have succeeded despite the difficult economic climate and are fortunate that we are still in a position to create new job opportunities.”
To celebrate its anniversary the firm is also hoping to raise £100,000 over the next two years for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract.
The firm has previously raised a similar amount for other charitable organisations.
Strategic Team Maintenance Co has been ranked as the 63rd fastest growing private company by the Sunday Times Fast Track 100.
