Passport of offers for York’s spring shoppers

SHOPPERS planning a spring shopping spree in York will be required to show their passport – if they want to take advantage of more than £70 worth of exclusive shopping vouchers and discounts in the city.

With thousands of shoppers from Yorkshire descending on York each year in search of retail therapy, the new ‘Shopping Passport’ designed by tourism agency Visit York will enable shoppers to get more for their money.

The passport can be downloaded for free at www.shopandthecity.org or is available from the Visit York Information Centre – giving the city’s visitors access to discounts ranging from 15% off at L.K Bennett to 25% off a luxury hand and nail pampering session at Nail Bar One.

More than 20 stores are participating in the campaign, which enters passport holders into a draw to win an overnight stay and dinner for two at York’s new five-star Cedar Court Grand Hotel.

Gillian Cruddas, chief executive of Visit York, said: “The unique shopping experience, picturesque historic streets and the array of independent stores and boutiques which York is able to offer has led to it fast becoming many people’s second city when it comes to luxury weekend shopping breaks and staycations within the North of England. This passport is a must for style-conscious shoppers who can’t resist snapping up a bargain.”

The passports are provided by Visit York as part of its 2010 Shop and the City campaign, funded by the City of York Council and supported by York Designer Outlet.
