Trust’s progress revealed

TWELVE months after launching at MIPIM, Bradford's Goitside Development Trust returned to the international property conference to raise awareness of the body's progress and to reveal its plans for the future.

The Trust, which is headed by Jonathan Wright, senior partner and property lawyer at Bradford-based law firm Last Cawthra Feather, is concerned with the redevelopment of Goitside, which is part of the 'Valley' section of architect Will Alsop's masterplan for the regeneration of the city.

Advances made by the Trust were unveiled in Cannes during the three day festival and included details of proposed public realm improvements and confirmation of planning permissions that have been granted and which are being sought by a number of developers.

Within the improvements is a new focus on Sunbridge Road which runs through the heart of Goitside which will see new junctions, lighting and street furniture introduced.

With many other sites already acquired for redevelopment the Trust believes the positive effects of Woolston House, National House and the Bee Hive Mills project will be highlighted as drivers for the area's improvement.

Mr Wright said: “The Trust recognises that to regenerate a community it must adopt a comprehensive approach linking with other organisations and agencies bringing about the regeneration of the centre of the city of Bradford.

“As anticipated at our launch we are now involved in, and support, a wide range of economic, social and environmental regeneration initiatives, ranging from the development and restoration of property to advice and training.

“This is an exciting time for Bradford and the Trust's primary role will be to encourage and promote plans for the area and bring them to completion acting alongside existing plans of Bradford Centre Regeneration.”
