Digital scheme scoops multiple awards

SHEFFIELD’S pioneering Digital Entrepreneurs business support programme has swept the board at the inaugural Yorkshire Internship Awards.

The £750,000 Digital Entrepreneurs scheme began 18 months ago and has worked with more than 135 companies providing specialist support in design, marketing, training, business development and many other areas.

The scheme beat off stiff competition from scores of companies based right around the region to take three top prizes at the Yorkshire Forward-backed event.

Digital Entrepreneurs won the Employer of the Year award while Sheffield Hallam University PR graduate Joe Winson won Yorkshire intern of the Year and South Yorkshire intern of the Year.

Deborah Egan, director of Digital Entrepreneurs, said: “The reaction to our work was amazing.

“I knew were in with a chance of getting something but never expected anything like this. To beat so many high calibre employers from around the region really is a fantastic coup for Sheffield.”

Digital Entrepreneurs has successfully created the country’s first ‘Electric Village’ – a virtual community of home working, web-based business-owners.

The Yorkshire Internship Awards were organised by Graduates Yorkshire in partnership with Yorkshire Forward and Yorkshire’s university careers services.
