Cricket club hails tourism sponsorship deal

TOURIST organisation Welcome to Yorkshire is to be Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s shirt sponsor for all matches in the LV= County Championship during the 2010 season.

The Welcome to Yorkshire name will be seen during all 16 Division One County Championship matches the team plays this season.

The aim of the tie-up is to promote the county as a great place to visit both during Yorkshire’s home matches and also as the team travels the length and breadth of the country to away fixtures.

The club has also announced that this year’s Scarborough Festival will officially be called ‘The Welcome to Yorkshire Scarborough Cricket Festival’ as part of a three year agreement between the organisations.

The festival at Scarborough dates back to 1876 and Welcome to Yorkshire’s involvement highlights the shared desire to grow the event in the Yorkshire sporting calendar. This season’s festival takes place in August.

The announcements follow Welcome to Yorkshire’s involvement in the Ashes Festival in Leeds in 2009 and also its role as an official partner of the Yorkshire Cricket Mela.

Stewart Regan, YCCC’s chief executive, said: “The shirt sponsorship is a perfect way to further cement the strategic partnership between the Club and Welcome to Yorkshire.

“The players will be very proud to carry the name on their shirts and play their part in encouraging people to visit this fantastic county.”
