‘Green shoots’ helping timber merchant grow sales

A YORKSHIRE timber merchant believes “green shoots” of recovery are being seen in the housing sector.

CR Taylor Timber, based in Denholme, Bradford, has reported increased sales over the first quarter.

The family run company, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, has relationships with many of the UK’s major construction firms as well as regional and national house builders.

Charles Taylor, sales director of CR Taylor Timber, said: “Turnover in February and March was 30% up on the corresponding period last year, a clear indicator that the house building sector is springing back into life.

“Like many others in our industry sector, we have experienced difficult trading conditions during the recession, but now appear to have turned the corner.

“Business is on the up across all trading sectors, notably the housing construction industry, which has really started to pick up.

“After selling their existing stock, house builders are now building again for the first time since 2007. There is much more confidence out there among both the big national and regional small-to-medium-sized house builders.”

The company, which has an outlet in Bradford, supplies timber for both standard and bespoke applications.
