EU backing for ITM Power

ENERGY storage and clean fuel firm ITM Power has secured a £440,000 grant from the European Union.

The grant will be used to fund work the Sheffield-based company working with the others across Europe to develop low cost combustion gas technology.

In particular it will be looking at how hydrogen could be used to replace propane and acetylene in areas such as welding and cutting.

Chief executive Graham Cooley said: “This is our first EU grant. At ITM Power we are interested in on-site fuel production packaged as CE marked products.

“Industrial process heat applications use a wide range of fuels combined with oxygen and air. On-site fuel production alleviates the need for delivered bottled gas which has significant logistical and safety advantages.”
