Congestion hotspots named

TWO Yorkshire cities have been named in a study naming Europe’s most congested places.

Leeds is 29th in the list compiled for satnav provider TomTom, while Sheffield is named 34th.

Brussels tops the table, London is named fourth, Edinburgh fifth, Dublin sixth and Birmingham 12th.

The rankings are based on how fast cars can travel on a city’s road network, as measured by the anonymous speed data TomTom collects every day from drivers who use its devices.

Wherever drivers were travelling at 70% or less of the speed limit, traffic was defined as congested.

Only cities with more than 500,000 inhabitants were included in the study.
