RBS jobs could go in Yorkshire

JOBS could be at risk in Yorkshire after the Royal Bank of Scotland announced plans to cut 2,600 positions.

The majority – 2,000 – of the job losses will be from the part-nationalised bank’s insurance arm, which employs almost 4,000 people in the region.

Employees in the insurance arm work across the region at centres including Green Flag, Direct Line and Churchill.

RBS has not yet decided where it will make the cuts. The remaining job losses will be from the bank’s retail banking centres in Edinburgh and London.

The European Commission has ordered RBS to sell its insurance businesses to quell competition fears.
