Tile deal creates UK leader

CERAMIC Prints, the Yorkshire-based decorative tile manufacturer and distributor, has been sold to British Ceramic Tile.
Brighouse-based CP was established by Tony Taylor in 1983 and the deal with British Ceramic Tile, headquartered in Newton Abbot, Devon, creates one of the largest tile companies in the UK.
Tony Taylor, chief executive of CP, said: “I am delighted that BCT and CP are joining forces and thrilled by the opportunities that lie ahead for our customers, suppliers and staff.
“I am proud to be joining BCT as commercial director and look forward to helping them deliver on their ambitious development plans.”
The deal will see British Ceramic Tile’s manufacturing capacity being supported by CP’s strong portfolio of outsourced material and extensive experience in global product sourcing. The combined company will employ more than 430 people.
DLA Piper advised CP on the sale.
Jon Kenworthy, partner in the corporate team at DLA Piper in Sheffield, led the transaction, supported by Richard Blackburn in corporate, Sarah Sprenger in real estate, and Clare Gregory in the employment team.
Mr Kenworthy said: “This is a significant deal which represents the amalgamation of two major businesses in industry.
“Combining industry expertise, skill base and advanced manufacturing capability, BCT now has a firm footing from which to increase its product choice for customers and gain market share.
“Our expertise and multi-practice approach allowed us to provide a comprehensive and efficient service to CP. In what continues to be a very challenging market, we are pleased that our team was able to bring the transaction to a successful conclusion for the benefit of both businesses.”
Exeter-based Stones Solicitors advised BCT on the acquisition.
