Latest appointments: P&A announces first chairman; YPO under new management; and more

P&A Receivables Services, the Sheffield-based provider of credit management and debt collection services, has appointed specialist corporate lawyer Andrew Hartley as its first chairman.

With a background in advising businesses of all sizes, Mr Hartley’s experience is seen as an important part of P&A Receivables’ plans for further expansion and development.

He said: “The future for this business is enormous and the sheer range of its activities in all areas of the debt industry offers exciting challenges for me as chairman. I am looking forward to assisting the talented young management team to further develop this expanding business.”

Mr Hartley set up hlw Commercial Lawyers in 1992 after 20 years as a partner at what is now DLA Piper. He recently retired as senior partner at hlw, but is retained by the firm as a consultant.

He is a director of a number of private companies in Sheffield and Harrogate and chairman of the George Woofindin Almshouses, a Sheffield charity providing sheltered accommodation for 20 local people.

Barry CrowtherPUBLIC sector buying organisation YPO has appointed its first managing director, after creating the role as part of the organisation’s restructure.

Wakefield-based YPO, which provides procurement services to local government, education and other public sector services across more that 100 local authority areas, has appointed Barry Crowther to the board.

Mr Crowther has worked at YPO since 1970 when he joined as an order clerk in the publications department.

He said: “We owe much of our success to recognising early on that we could work strategically with schools and the wider education sector, when budgets were devolved following the 1988 Education Reform Act. Building on that early success we will continue to work as a strategic partner to customers throughout all functions of the public sector.”

LEEDS-based Georgiana Head Recruitment has welcomed Oliver Benbow to the team as recruitment manager.

Mr Benbow has more than five years experience working in taxation recruitment and joins from Michael Page Finance in Manchester.

He will cover the Northern market looking at both public practice and commerce and industry opportunities.

Managing director Georgiana Head said: “We are delighted to welcome Oliver to our company. His in-depth knowledge of the tax recruitment market, supported by his hands-on approach, will really help us deliver an excellent service to both our clients and candidates and expand our brand across the North.”
