Administration for Meadowhall occupier

A FASHION retailer with a shop in the Meadowhall shopping centre enmploying 34 people has gone into administration.

Joint administrators Paul Dounis, David Acland and Lila Thomas of Begbies Traynor are continuing to trade the FR Retail store in Sheffield while a buyer is sought.

Poor trading has been blamed for the move.

The outlets sell high end designer fashion for men and women including brands such as Hugo Boss, Armani and Juicy Couture.

FR Retail is headquartered in Edinburgh and also has a store employing 30 people in the Westfield shopping centre at Stratford in London.

No redundancies are planned at present.

Mr Acland said: “The stores only opened in the last year, but unfortunately they have suffered from the continuation of the weak economy and the fall in consumer spending which has hit the retail sector hard and particularly sales of luxury items.

“The company made a major investment when they took on the premises and purchased a large amount of designer stock, but the expected sales failed to materialise.”
