Yorkshire’s entrepreneurial spirit put on show

MORE than 1,200 of Yorkshire's entrepreneurs took advantage of free business tips, guidance and expert advice at this year's Leeds Enterprise show.

The two day event – now in its fifth year – was held in the city's Millennium Square and according to Helen West, chief executive of the newly formed Business Link Yorkshire, was buzzing with activity from the moment it opened.

“We are delighted that this year's Leeds show attracted so many people,” said Ms West.

“We're particularly pleased because it was the first big event we have organised following the launch of the new Business Link service to the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber.”

Ms West added that the enterprise shows were a great start for people setting up in business as they not only got advice from professionals but fellow entrepreneurs.

“It's often these speakers that make a big impact in inspiring the entrepreneurial spirit in the region, which is so important for Yorkshire's economy,” she said.

Alex McWhirter, head of regional development agency Yorkshire Forward who spoke at the event, said the show's popularity was a testament to how many people in the region had a desire to run their own business.

“We are delighted to have played a role in helping them achieve their ambitions.” he said.
