CALA wins permission for North Yorkshire scheme
CALA Homes (Yorkshire), part of the residential and commercial property developer CALA Group, has won detailed planning permission for a £9.5m residential development in Pickering, North Yorkshire.
The Leeds-based, award winning housebuilder has got the go-ahead from Ryedale District Council to build 61 new homes, made up of two-bedroom apartments and houses, and three and four-bedroom family houses, on a site off Ruffa Lane, on the edge of the sought after market town.
Twenty-one of the new homes will be affordable and CALA Homes (Yorkshire) is making a contribution of £78,000 towards highway improvements and public open spaces. Work will start on site in Summer 2008, with the first new homes ready for occupation in late Spring 2009.
According to CALA Homes (Yorkshire) land director Chris Adams, the location will help attract purchasers. He says: “Located between York and the North Yorkshire Coast, Pickering is an historic market town and the official gateway to the North York Moors National Park. As such, we expect our new homes to be of interest to local families and people looking to move into the area. There is a shortage of family homes in the town, which our new development will help address.
“We are confident that all prospective purchasers will appreciate the outstanding values of the CALA Homes brand. Each new home will be architect designed for contemporary living, and reflect a feeling of spaciousness,” added Mr Adams.
“We secured the site in Pickering by demonstrating to the land owners and their agents that we can make quick purchasing decisions and that we know our way through the ever more complicated planning process. We were able to maximise the value of the land, because we have built such a successful brand at CALA.
“Unlike many of our competitors at present, largely thanks to the fact we are a privately owned company, we still have substantial resources to spend on acquiring development land across the whole of Yorkshire.”
CALA Homes is marketing a number of new developments across Yorkshire. It is building new family homes at Hexagon in Huddersfield, at Springfields in the village of Millhouse Green near the market town of Penistone, and at Saunderson Grange in Penistone itself, while a new development of family homes has just got underway in York.
Based on the number of planning applications made in the last 12 months, in Yorkshire CALA Homes is ranked seventh largest housebuilder.
