LEEDS is the only regional city in England to keep pace with London in relation to the growth of its office market, new research claims.
According to Drivers Jonas Deloitte’s latest research into the health of the UK office market, Leeds has significantly outperformed the market.
The research found that investment volumes in the West Yorkshire city were up by 22% last year and the Leeds market saw a 40% increase in the take-up of office space representing 398,000 sq ft across 106 deals.
However, a reduced development pipeline is likely to see the availability of prime space continuing to fall in 2012.

MINISTERS have moved to stop an income tax avoidance scheme based on property business loss relief.
The scheme used artificial transactions around agricultural land to generate a loss that could be used against income tax.
David Gauke, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, said: “At a time when our top economic priority is reducing the deficit, it is unacceptable for anyone to try to avoid paying a fair share.
“Today’s action will not affect legitimate agricultural businesses, but by acting swiftly, the Government has prevented this scheme being used by people who want to escape paying the tax they owe. We won’t hesitate to close other avoidance schemes down as we become aware of them.”
