Five-a-side concept kicks off

A HUSBAND and wife team have launched a five-a-side operation with a difference.

TNFive is the brainchild of Richard and Sarah Amos and has the backing of former professional Brian Deane with support of Phil Riley, head of football at Leeds City Council.

The concept mirrors the way Mr Amos has played the small sided game in his own football league for the last five years.

The TNFive website allows groups of friends and colleagues to create their own competitive league and arrange match fixtures, post individual availability for matches, keep scores and monitor individual progress within their league.

Mr Amos said: “My own experience has been that five-a-side can lack structure and a casual kickabout can sometimes become boring for all involved. At the other end of the scale, there are formal five-a-side football leagues which require a regular commitment to play.

“The concept has worked so well for players of all abilities in our league that Sarah and I took the decision to set up the website, and indeed the company.

“Whilst the website is open to people across the country, we’re focusing squarely on the Leeds City Region at launch.”

Mr Amos will continue in his role as senior partnership manager at Leeds City Council, where he directs the development of learning and skills provision for young people, whilst Mrs Amos will be involved in the day to day management of TNFive.

Players register within a pool which works with as few as nine players and a maximum of 20 players per pool, so there will always be someone who can fill any absences.

Unlike in formal leagues, each match day a player is randomly assigned to one of three teams which play against each other in a mini tournament.

After each mini tournament, the individuals on the winning team are allocated points through the website.

These points build up over the season and can be tracked in their very own ‘pool’ league table. At the end of the season, the individual with the most points is their TN5 champion.
