SHIPPING lawyer Iain Butterworth has been promoted to the board of Myton Law.

Hull-based Mr Butterworth has been appointed director of shipping, transport, insurance and engineering law firm Myton Law.

Scott Yates, director of Myton Law, said: “We are delighted to welcome Iain to the board. Myton Law is very fortunate to have Iain as part of the team.

Mr Butterworth specialises in technical shipping and engineering cases, ranging from major oil pollution to resolving the consequences of vessel breakdown.

IRWIN Mitchell subsidiary Ascent has promoted Niall Gilhooley to chief executive.
 
The Sheffield-based business, which provides debt collection, field agency and claims support services, has made the move as part of a number of changes to its executive board, which also sees previous chief executive Mark Higgins become chairman.
 
New chief operating ffficer David Whittaker has been promoted to the board, along with finance manager Valerie Wilson, and Irwin Mitchell corporate partner, Laurence Gavin.

Previous chairman Howard Culley will take up the role of non-executive director.
 
Mr Gilhooley, who has worked at Ascent since 2009, was previously chief operating officer at the company.

He said: “Ascent is an established player in the UK and in a very strong position to grow and build market share in the future.”

FINANCIAL outsourcer HML has appointed UKAR’s commercial director Andy Wiggans as interim chief commercial officer following Ian Cornelius’ move to HML’s parent, Skipton Building Society.

Mr Wiggans, who has more than 20 years of experience in financial services with organisations including Halifax and Bradford and Bingley, will assume responsibility for HML’s sales, marketing and client relations teams as the organisation pursues growth.
 
He said: “HML is a market-leading business with the potential to grow in core and new markets and my experience of generating value from assets at UKAR should enhance our services for new and existing clients.

LANGLEYS Solicitors has welcomed a new partner into the commercial division of its York office.

Mr Morgan joins York-based Langleys as head of its dispute resolution unit. His work will cover a range of areas including business disputes and claims against professional advisers.

He joins Langleys from Greenwoods in Peterborough where he was the head of the commercial disputes team.

David Thompson, managing partner of Langleys, said: “Darren is a solicitor with a solid reputation who will quickly become a trusted adviser to our clients. He is known for his in-depth, relevant and good value advice – qualities which are central to the Langleys’ name.”
