Latitude Wine and Liquor Merchant , Leeds City Centre’s only independent wine and spirit specialist, has only been open for two years and is already gaining national recognition – shortlisted for Best Independent and Best Spirit categories of the Drinks Retailing Awards 2010.

Our buying mission is to find the boutique and unique products that we can sell because they taste good, rather than being packaged and marketed well. With many years experience in the hospitality industry, both in restaurants and bars, we have come to the conclusion, broadly, that these products tend to made by distillers and wine makers who have total control of their means of production; those who are able to monitor quality from grape, grain, or plantation to bottle. So rather than pitching for the market leader in any given area of our wine or spirit list, we put the research in, open bottles and rely on our taste buds. We are honest: it’s very difficult to sell products that don’t taste good, so we don’t stock them. But we do stock over 700 tried and tested products.

Latitude’s aim is to offer the kind of knowledge and expertise you simply can’t find in your average supermarket wine department. Products are sourced from around the world to reflect our core belief in good value. We host free tastings every Friday from 5-7pm and regular masterclasses throughout the year, providing a more in-depth insight into your favourite wine and spirits. We are happy to organise bespoke tasting sessions for corporate and social groups as well as being the chosen supplier for most of the best bars and caterers in the region. We’ve also developed a reputation as the best specialist spirit supplier in the North.

Proprietor, Chris Hill, brings 20 years’ experience in to the shop. Prior to establishing the business he managed some of Leeds finest Bars and Restaurants, developing wine lists and cocktail menus for the likes of the Angel’s Share, Harvey Nichols, Trio Bar and Grill and Art’s Café.
