YORKSHIRE Forward says it had settled claims with more than 1,000 businesses across the region one year on from last year’s devastating floods.

The regional development agency’s Business Recovery Scheme was launched within a few days of the floods, providing up to £2m for small companies, and up to £3m for medium to large companies.

Since then, 959 small businesses and 69 larger ones have benefited from more than £4m of funding that has helped them to continue trading.

These include the Yorkshire Air Museum, at Elvington, a popular tourism attraction that has a collection of 40 aircraft, displays and artefacts.

A GROUP of young ‘civilians’ working for Sheffield-based telemarketing company, Ant Marketing were part of the team which lifted the winner’s trophy in an army charity challenge in York and raised £500 for Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids.

The challenge, designed to encourage young people to experience army life and help them get active and interested in joining the armed forces, was held at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks.

The four men and one woman from Ant chose to represent Hallam FM and joined forces with a group from Galaxy FM to create Team Radio Station.
They competed over two days against a number of other teams in a range of gruelling and challenging exercises.

Chris Steed, who is an Ant client support manager and captained the team, said: “It was very hard work and there were mosquitoes everywhere, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even more so having raised so much cash for local kids.”
