Deals Latest: Walker Morris, Mazars

SPECIALIST energy from waste lawyers from Walker Morris have advised Energos on a renewable energy project.

The project will see the development of the Glasgow Recycling and Renewable Energy Centre.

Energos’s cutting edge advanced conversion technology will feature as part of a three-stage-process residual waste project led by recycling and sustainable waste company, Viridor.

In addition to advanced recycling and anaerobic digestion technologies, the proposed £146m Recycling and Renewable Energy Centre at Polmadie, will incorporate Energos’s thermal treatment infrastructure.

Leeds-based Walker Morris fielded energy from waste specialists from its renewables, energy and resources team to advise Energos.

Ben Sheppard, the partner who led the Walker Morris team said: “We are delighted to have helped Energos on this complex and important project, which will provide the residents of Glasgow with an environmentally friendly solution for its waste as well as a sustainable source of renewable energy for many years to come.”

THE corporate finance team in the Leeds office of accountancy firm Mazars has advised a major US company on its first UK acquisition.

Check Into Cash Inc, a US leader in speciality consumer financial services, has acquired Cash and Cheque Express, a London-based chain of 17 stores providing consumer finance.

The business has been bought from father and son team, David and Toby Wheeler. Toby will stay with the business as managing director to drive forward growth.

Mazars corporate finance partner Oliver Hoffman said: “We have been working with Check Into Cash Inc to help them identify acquisition opportunities in the UK.

“This is the first completed deal, but Check Into Cash is an ambitious business with strong growth plans and we continue to work with them to identify further potential acquisition opportunities.”
