Surburban style bar to open in city centre

OTLEY-BASED pub company The Suburban Style Bar is set to open its first city centre venue with a cafe/bar in the prestigious £150m Leeds’ Gateway development.
Known as Suburban Bar it will be the company’s flagship venue and will be the first food and drink outlet in the award-winning development to the east of The Calls, when it opens in late-August.
The company has invested £750,000 into its new venture which will be housed underneath the nine-storey Accor Etap Hotel.
Managing director Andy Longman, said: “We have been looking for a city centre outlet for some time now, but even through Leeds is in the middle of a construction boom locating the right site at the right time takes a lot of negotiating. Our latest venture will create around 35 full and part-time jobs, and the 4,200 sq ft (768 sq m) bar will be able to accommodate approximately 350 people. This is an exciting development for the group, and we are pleased to be a part of the gentrification to the east of the city centre, which is now very much in full swing.”
Suburban, which was founded eight years ago by Andy Longman, currently runs bars in Chapel Allerton, Horsforth, Otley, Bingley and Baildon.
The company employs around 90 members of staff, and has a turnover of £5.3m.
The Gateway is a mixed-use scheme developed by the Scotfield Group Ltd and designed by Carey Jones Architects.
Built over five phases, when complete it will comprise 680 apartments, a 218-bed Accor Etap Hotel, offices, bars, restaurants and a crèche facility.
