Administration for Hawksley Engineering

JOBS are at risk after Hawksley Engineering was placed into administration.

The business, based in Gunness, near Scunthorpe, has blamed the move on difficult trading conditions.

Joint administrators Andrew MacKenzie and Robert Maxwell are seeking a buyer for the business, which provides structural and mechanical engineering projects for a range of clients in the farming, marine and civil engineering industries.

Hawksley Engineering, which has an annual turnover of approximately £500,000, has been trading since 1972 and employs nine staff at its Gunness plant.

All nine employees face redundancy if a buyer cannot be found for the company.

Mr MacKenzie said: “Unfortunately Hawksley Engineering has suffered from the devastating effects of the economic downturn and the loss of a major customer, which has resulted in the business being put into administration.

“We are hopeful that the company can be sold as a going concern, safeguarding as many jobs as possible.”

He added: “We are currently talking to a number of interested parties and hope to secure a buyer for the business and its assets, which include plant and machinery as well as 3.5 acres of land and buildings in Scunthorpe.”
