Test results boost Sirius

SIRIUS Minerals is ready to upgrade its estimate of the mineral wealth it could exploit through a new mine in North Yorkshire.
The company’s test drilling programme has found its thickest seam yet of polyhalite from which potash – which is heavily used in agriculture – is produced.
Chris Fraser, managing director and chief executive of Sirius, said: “The latest results from our drilling programme continue to build confidence in the extent and quality of the world class polyhalite resource at York Potash.
“Following detailed analysis of both drilling and the recently acquired seismic data, the company is now working to upgrade the size and category of the resource estimate.”
Sirius Minerals is committed to developing a new potash mine in the Whitby and Scarborough area which it claims could provide thousands of jobs for the area.
Last week it announced it was seeking permission to extract minerals from under the sea off the Yorkshire coastline via tunnels from its onshore mining operation.
