BCB wins contract with paint group

YORKSHIRE firm BCB Environmental Management has won a long-term contract with industrial paint manufacturer Becker Industrial Coatings (BIC).

The contract encompasses the management of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste at BIC’s Liverpool site and is expected to deliver improvements in the reduction, segregation and recycling of waste, as well as cost reductions.

BCB, which is based at Marston Moor Business Park, near York and which is currently seeking planning consent for an £18m energy-from-waste plant at Tockwith, will provide BIC with on-site management as well as administration of its collection to disposal process.

BCB will work alongside BIC personnel to reduce waste at its site with a view to improving the company’s carbon footprint.

BIC specialises in supplying high-performance industrial coatings to major international clients in the metal and plastics industries, including market leaders in the steel, heavy plant, automotive and electronics sectors.

The company is part of the Swedish multinational group, AB Wilh Becker, Europe’s largest independent paint company, which has sales operations in more than 120 countries.

Norman Rawlinson, the UK managing director of BIC, said: “The life cycle of paint, including ultimate disposal, calls for great care to protect the environment.  BCB stood out as offering the most comprehensive, dedicated and specialist support and, therefore, the best regional solution for this site.”

Phil Boardman, BCB managing director, added: “We are delighted to be working with BIC to apply our knowledge and experience of the waste market to its particular sector.  We have ourselves invested in state-of-the-art technology at our Tockwith transfer site, near York, to provide enhanced control and reporting systems.  Currently, we are discussing extending this facility to the BIC site.”
