Barclays expands and appoints in Hull

BARCLAYS has announced it has signed up for new flagship premises in Hull city centre.

The new premises at 1-5 King Edward Street will be the flagship branch for the city centre, accommodating all the staff currently located at the Paragon Square site.

The new premises, which have four floors, are in the process of being fitted out with state of the art equipment and are expected to open in November.

The announcement coincides with the appointment of Jon Hunter who takes up the role of relationship director looking after larger corporate customers for Barclays Commercial Banking in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

Mr Hunter will have responsibility for developing new business for businesses with a turnover typically in excess of £20m.

He will work closely with Steve Young and his team of relationship managers and will give Barclays the capability to transact deals locally for businesses with turnover up to £1bn.

Mr Hunter was formerly the finance director of a privately owned property business and previous roles include investment banking and private equity with Granville Baird and corporate mergers and acquisitions with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Hull.

A former international swimmer, representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, Mr Hunter is also well known in the region for his sporting achievements.

Lee Collinson, head of corporate banking for Yorkshire and the Humber said: “The Humber bank is a fantastic place to do business and Jon and the team will be looking for further growth during 2008. This new position underlines our commitment to our continued presence in the city – after all we’ve been there for over 250 years now!”
