Financial appointments

A round-up of Yorkshire’s financial appointments.

PHIL Manchester has been appointed as the new managing director of the national insurance group of DLA Piper.

Mr Manchester joins the Sheffield office of the global legal services provider with more than 30 years technical claims experience in the insurance sector, working with a diverse range of insured and self-insured businesses.

He has also led several of his own business development initiatives.

Although based in Sheffield, he will be responsible for the national strategy and business development of the group’s four regional bases in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester and Sheffield.

He said: “I’m looking forward to working with a great team of people who are passionate about what they do. DLA Piper already have a substantial

foothold in this market place, but equally I see huge potential and I am confident about our growth plans. “

SHEFFIELD Chamber of Commerce has announced it has appointed a management accountant to its team.

Geraldine Haywood has joined the Chamber and will work for the Chamber’s finance director and company secretary Stephen Mitchell.

Her duties will include heading up the finance office and examining cost-reduction strategies.

She will also be directly responsible for producing management accounts and the day-to-day running of the accounts department.

Mrs Haywood has more than 25 years experience in accounts across a wide variety of business fields, including engineering, biochemistry, IT, banking, insurance and the Ministry of Defence.

Sheffield Chamber’s finance department recently scored ‘five out of five’ for its finance department in an external assessment carried out by the British Chambers of Commerce.

HSBC has strengthened its Yorkshire Corporate banking team with the appointment if Neil Abbott.

He joins the company from Fortis Bank and has broad banking experience of asset backed lending, trade finance and leveraged transactions.

His role will allow him to focus and build on the growth and success of the HSBC Corporate team to date.

BUSINESS advisory firm Deloitte has appointed two new directors at their Leeds office.

Nicola Frampton and Anthony Matthews will be based at the firm’s City Square offices in Enterprise Risk Services and Audit respectively.

Mrs Frampton, formerly a police officer with West Yorkshire Police, joined Deloitte in 2002.

She became a senior manager shortly after joining the firm and specialises in corporate governance, risk management and internal audit.

Mr Matthews joined Deloitte’s Birmingham office after graduating from Durham University in 1999. He transferred to the Leeds office in 2001.
