In Brief: Exhausts UK, Cromwell Polythene, LED Ideas, Poland Your Way

PERFORMANCE exhausts systems business Exhausts UK believes it is set to take turnover over £1m in 2013 following support from The Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS).

The Sheffield-based business is also on course to take on new staff – it presently employs 12 – and is predicting an 18% turnover upturn in its next financial year.

Exhausts UK supplies the trade industry and also runs an e-commerce site trading under the brand name of Cobra Sport.

Exhausts UK was established in 2004 and is run by siblings Rachel and Peter Jarvis. However, exhausts have been in their family for more than 40 years with their parents previously running Ascar Exhausts.

Ms Jarvis said: “Working with MAS has revolutionised the way the whole business is run. Our people have enthusiastically taken on board the changes which have been introduced.

“Everything is much more organised and departments now work together more effectively which has resulted in the whole process running much more smoothly from orders being taken through to delivery.”

The business is now turning its attention to increasing its exports.

CROMWELL Polythene has sold the business interests of its recycling division to newly formed Leopard Recycling.

James Lee, Cromwell Polythene’s chief executive, said: “Recent growth of the recycling division has diverted valuable resource, both human and financial, from our mainstream business, supplying bags, sacks and ancillary storage and collection products to the ‘away from home’ cleaning market and the recycling and waste management sector. 

“We have ambitious growth plans for our core business, on which we are determined to refocus all our efforts. 

“We are delighted to have reached agreement with Mark Fuller, who previously ran the recycling division, and will do all we can to ensure a smooth transition to the new owners.”

Leopard Recycling will continue to trade from its Sherburn-in-Elmet warehouse, where material is sorted, graded and baled for recycling. The deal is effective from January 1.

A LIGHTING design and installation company has won a contract to to equip a sports centre in Alaska with environmentally friendly lights.

LED Ideas, based in Wetherby, has seen rapid export growth this year with contracts in five countries around the world.

David McAspurn, director of LED Ideas said: “We have quickly grown a strong international reputation for designing LED lighting solutions for sports facilities. The lights provide a better quality of light with less shadowing and deliver significant cost savings in energy and maintenance.”

LED lights save between 50% and 80% of the energy used by traditional lighting, with resultant cost and carbon benefits.

AN independent tour operator based in York has negotiated an exclusive association with a four-star country house hotel near Krakow, Poland.

Maxine Forster, director of the travel specialists Poland Your Way, has added culinary mini-breaks to her existing portfolio of horse riding, skiing and city holidays operating in locations across Poland.

The new cooking and dining experience is based in a restored 19th century manor house, formerly a Polish nobleman’s home.

Ms Forster said: “The Polish food culture and the quality of ingredients used to create authentic dishes is not widely understood.  We have designed a culinary adventure which combines practical daytime kitchen sessions and a quality Polish dining experience in the hotel’s restaurant each evening.”
